The Specific Difference

Artist: Zoita Delia Calinescu
Curator: Olivia Nitis
7-20 April 2022
Opening: April 7, 7 PM.

The term defined is a species whose proximal genus and specific difference are specified. The definition is a logical operation and a conceptual process. The specific difference is the characteristic feature of a notion that distinguishes it from other notions contained in its proximate gender. Zoita Delia Calinescu opts for a term on which she intervenes in a process of reconstruction and limited emotional personalization. To Fall and its verbal forms become suggestive for a cold-interpreted personal and collective radiography of the present, preserving the rigor and structure of the dictionary, with gradual insertions of poetry, philosophy and literature that offer multiple meanings and semantic variations. The taming of the process is done by gradual disappearance, the text disappears, the paper being at the same time a support for a fragile memory. The conceptual interest of the artist is to express her own downfalls in a controlled, structured and serial formula, as well as to define a reality that we face individually and collectively. A pandemic and a war in Europe have fallen upon us in recent years. We all know what it means to fall. It's a time for reflection, about ourselves and others.
